See Tom Cruise run from the 'Mummy' in final trailer

By: Ben Gourlay | More News: Celebrities & Entertainment | Posted: 3 days, 10 hours ago

After laying dormant for nine years since the release of the ill-received 'The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor', Universal Studios has opened up the sarcophagus of the franchise for a new mega budget reboot starring Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella, which has just released its final trailer ahead of next month's theatrical release.

The new 'Mummy' reboot is being built from the ground up to launch a cinematic universe of the studio's classic horror icons, including The Invisible Man, The Wolf Man, Van Helsing and Dracula. As the kick-starter for a new multiverse, there's quite a bit of expectation on its shoulders for first time director Alex Kurtzman, but it sure looks like it's off to a good start. Even if it's a complete disaster, it will still be better than the last 'Mummy' film.

'The Mummy' is set to scare cinemagoers in 2D, 3D and IMAX cinemas worldwide from June 9, 2017.

The long mooted follow-up to Jim Henson's 1982 fantasy feature 'The Dark Crystal' is finally set to happen - as a Netflix exclusive, with the platform revealing the first behind the scenes footage.

In a surprise announcement, Netflix has announced that production on the 10 episode series 'The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance' is currently underway, which is said to take place many years before the film. The original concept designer Brian Froud is back on board, as is the Jim Henson company - so expect lots of live action puppets. 'Now You See Me' and 'Incredible Hulk' director Louis Leterrier will produce and helm the series.

It's currently too soon to officially announce when 'The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance' will hit Netflix, but a 2019 release seems more than likely.

'Power Rangers' reboot all but dead after China failure

By: Ben Gourlay | More News: Celebrities & Entertainment | Posted: 5 days, 11 hours ago

While the newly rebooted 'Power Rangers' film was optimistically hoped to launch a new franchise, perhaps even a cinematic universe, but it now looks like a complete lack of interest all around the world has done what Rita Repulsa never could - actually kill the Rangers.

According to Slash Film, the $100 million film has barely been able to recoup its production budget at the worldwide box office, let alone the hefty marketing campaign which came with it. Despite a tepid response from western audiences, including $84 million from the United States , the production had hoped that a stellar taken in China and Japan would prove its saving grace. Unfortunately, the film only managed $3.3 million over its Chinese premier weekend - a far cry from the $50 million haul of 'Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2. With just $138 million in the can, 'Power Rangers 2' looks to be fading dream. Or nightmare.

By: Ben Gourlay | More News: Celebrities & Entertainment | Posted: 6 days, 14 hours ago

According to Deadline Hollywood, Disney is currently working with the FBI and are refusing to pay the "enormous" ransom that is being demanded. The unnamed hacking group have threatened to release the film incrementally is their demands aren't met. The hack is not believed to be related to recent WannaCry ransomware attack, but could be related to the recent leak of unreleased 'Orange is the New Black' episodes which were apparently sourced from a Hollywood post-production facility.

'Dead Men Tell No Tales' is set to hit theatres in 2D, 3D and IMAX across the world on May 26th 2017.
